Sonata in B minor for Viola “Eschaton”

Written as a final project for a music theory class at BYU, “Eschaton” is a study of “weird” chord progressions and the relationships between diatonic and non-diatonic chord tones. The melody twists and leaps through several key departures and modulations, introducing and playing on new themes, yet always returning to the powerful opening statement that heralds the ultimate act of the end times.

This recording features a cello performer (Delaney Rose) with MIDI piano accompaniment. The score displayed is for analysis purposes only and is not intended as performable sheet music. The official sheet music for “Eschaton” will be available in my shop in the near future.

The Drinking Game

Another theory class project, “The Drinking Game” was an experiment in indeterminate composition; the pitches of certain sections were chosen randomly by placing a glass bottle inside a ring of dice and spinning it. The playful and lilting xylophone melody is intermittently punctuated by the clinking of glass, much like a conversation or piece of media is interrupted during a drinking game.

This recording features a MIDI xylophone solo; the glass was performed and recorded by myself using xylophone mallets on a soda bottle and a pickle jar. The score displayed is for analysis purposes only and is not intended as performable sheet music. The official sheet music for “The Drinking Game” will be available in my shop in the near future.
